Dropshipping - The Basic Low Down

Dropshipping is when you offer for sale a product from some wholesaler or manufacturer on your site but do not actually have any inventory on hand. The customer buys from you and you buy from the wholesaler or manufacturer, who in turn sends the product to your customer in your name. The customer thinks they have purchased the product from you solely. They, ideally, do not know about the wholesaler or manufacturer that actually sent them the product.

Dropshipping is a great way to earn a very nice income online. There are, of course, hundreds, if not thousands, of wholesalers around the world who are more than willing to partner up with you in order to sale product. All you have to do is find them, make a deal, get to selling and become rich quick!! Sounds great doesn't it? I wish it worked that way, but it doesn't.

Here are the facts; dropshipping ?can? earn you a very nice income online. Wholesalers can be found, in great numbers, who are willing to partner with you. You do have to make a deal with them, in writing. You do have to market their products, which means you pay for all advertising costs. You do have to have a certain kind of shopping cart built in to your website in order to deal with the various ?ship from? zip codes, if you are dealing with more than one wholesaler. You will have to work nearly full time if you want any real success. It isn't easy to run a dropshipping business. In truth, it isn't easy to run any business. Also, do not pay for the right to dropship. Dropshipping is free and wholesalers can be found in abundance on almost any search engine. Take the time to search for them. In the end, it will pay off big for you.

Dropshipping has it's pros and cons like any business. The upside to dropshipping is the fact that you don't have to keep any inventory on hand. Which means you have substantially cut your business costs and allows for more money in your advertising budget. This is a very good thing, as the more you advertise the more you sale. Another good thing about dropshipping is you will sometimes get an even better price to offer your customers after you have proven to your wholesalers that you are getting enough traffic to your website to justify them giving you a better price so you don't stop using them as a partner.

One of the major cons to dropshipping is that you take the blame if something goes wrong. It is your name and reputation on the line. Your customer doesn't care that your wholesaler ran off with their money, or that lightning struck your wholesalers building and it caught fire and burned to the ground. All they know is that you took their money and they didn't get any product! Your customers will truly not care about the reason they didn't receive their product, or the reason it got damamged during shipping. (Do not work with a wholesaler or manufacturer that doesn't use a major shipping company.) The only thing they will care about is how fast you can make it right. It is all on ?your shoulders?. Normally, if something goes wrong, your wholesaler will work with you to try and make it right for your customer, but not always.

Dropshipping can work, and work well, but in order to work it requires you to keep your head in the game at all times. Research the wholesaler or manufacturer you are thinking about working with. Find out about them in detail. Discover their business practices and get a good understanding of their business ethics. This will go a long way toward helping your business succeed. Also, get to know your wholesale contacts. (The people you deal with when you contact your wholesalers.) The more they trust you and the more you trust them, the better working relationship you will have and the better price you will get from them for their products. Most of all, don't be afraid to haggle with them for their bottom line price. It will not only increase your bottom line, it's fun!!
